Freight elevators

Three freight elevator categories

Freight elevators fall under three categories: conventional freight elevators, material lifts (Type A and B) and dumbwaiters. Frontenac Technologies offers dumbwaiters that are specially designed for smaller loads with surface areas under 1 m2.

Dumbwaiters

Conventional freight elevators

Our freight elevators work like regular elevators and are CSA B44-07 compliant. They can lift loads weighing up to approximately 20,000 lb (9,000 kg). Freight elevators require a pit that is 35 inches deep, which provides a secure space for maintenance. Similarly, a minimum of 43 inches is required above the machine.

Our freight elevators have hydraulic cylinders, and Frontenac Technologies uses submersible pumps to ensure they function properly. As a result, our freight elevators are surprisingly quiet.

Material lifts

Frontenac Technologies offers two types of material lifts.

TYPE A

  • Cabin door width: maximum 48 inches
  • No limit in the number of floors
  • Operates at 575 volts

TYPE B

  • No cabin size or load limit
  • Floor limit: 2
  • Operator inside the cabin
  • Operator must continue pushing the button to lift the cabin (constant pressure push buttons)
  • Most economical version, cabin door not necessary
  • Operates at 575 volts

Dumbwaiters

Dumbwaiters are useful to move small loads from floor to floor. They can handle a maximum of 750 lb. The dumbwaiters that Frontenac Technologies offers run on electricity, using 220-volt outlets (household voltage). These dumbwaiters are often used to move documents, boxes, small trolleys, food and so on.

  • Limited to 1 m2 of floor space
  • 48 inches of clearance in the cabin
  • Operator outside the cabin

Handling

Goods handling, whether manual or mechanical, is a common element in various areas of activity. Numerous employees perform these tasks, for storage, shipping, sales and other purposes. Workers are not only responsible for handling, but they must contend with the associated challenges as well.

A shared responsibility

The wrong manual technique or tool to lift a load can quickly turn into an occupational health and safety concern for employers and employees alike. Heavy lifting puts workers’ health and physical well-being at risk. Freight elevators are therefore indispensable tools, as they can eliminate dangerous operations involving lift trucks or bring materials from one landing to another within a narrow area.

Material lifts allow workers to safely move goods from floor to floor. Several types of freight elevators are available, with capacities ranging from approximately 110 lb (50 kg) to 20,000 lb (9,000 kg). Without a doubt, material lifts are essential for a variety of commercial activities. They save precious time spent on handling activities and help ensure employee safety during the transportation of heavy and bulky loads.

Available models

Frontenac Technologies puts considerable effort into developing lifting product lines that are CSA B44-07 compliant. In particular, we spend a lot of time and effort on making the most of the available height in order to gain floor space.
